African violets can be easily propagated from leaf cuttings. Remove a healthy leaf with a stem of 1 to 2 inches long, cutting the stem at an angle. Fill a 4-inch pot with a moist, porous mix, such as vermiculite and/or perlite, or either one mixed with peat moss. Fully insert the stem and about ¼ inch of the leaf in it.

Cut a healthy leaf from the main plant with a sterilized knife or scissors. Choose a leaf from the middle row of leaves, not too close to the center, and not too close to the outer edge. Trim the stem so there is about 1/2" left. Now make a small 45 degree cut at the tip of the stem. African violets are incredibly easy to propagate.

The best temperature to keep your African violet alive is a pleasant 70 degrees. If you're one of "those people" and prefer your house on the chilly side, keep your plant a little closer to the window.
