Edward Burne-Jones, (born August 28, 1833, Birmingham, England—died June 17, 1898, London), one of the leading painters and designers of late 19th-century England, whose romantic paintings using medieval imagery were among the last manifestations of the Pre-Raphaelite style.

The Adoration of the Magi or Adoration of the Kings or Visitation of the Wise Men is the name traditionally given to the subject in the Nativity of Jesus in art in which the three Magi, represented as kings, especially in the West, having found Jesus by following a star, lay before him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and worship him.

The Adoration of the Magi. Designed by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, Bt ARA (1833-1898) in 1888 and woven in 1894 with wool and silk on a cotton warp. The tapestry, measuring 2580 x 3840 mm., was executed by Morris & Co. while at Merton Abbey. It found its way to Manchester because (according to an inscription on it) it was made as a memorial.
